
No. 7 Buckeyes Host Wildcats, Travel to Face Boilermakers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 7 Ohio State women’s tennis team will host Northwestern at 3 p.m. Friday before hitting the road to play at Purdue at noon Sunday in West Lafayette, Ind. The Buckeyes enter the match Friday 12-4 overall and 5-0 in Big Ten play, while Northwestern is 11-5 on the year and 6-0 in league action. Purdue is 10-7 overall and has a 2-3 B1G ledger.
Live scoring and video will be available for the match in Columbus and for the match in Purdue if it is played indoors.
The match Friday in Columbus will be played INSIDE the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. Admission and parking are free on match day.

Ohio State vs. Northwestern
- Ohio State and Northwestern each have five wins in the last 10 matches between the teams, with the Buckeyes 3-1 in Columbus in the stretch.
- The Buckeyes and Wildcats only met in a nonconference match last season, with Northwestern winning 4-3 in consolation play of ITA National Team Indoors in Stillwater, Okla., Feb. 7, 2021. The Wildcats won the doubles point and Buckeye Luna Dormet tied the match with a straight-set victory on court six. The remaining five matches went to a third set, with four first set wins by the Buckeyes. Ohio State went ahead 3-1, as Irina Cantos Siemers won on court one and Isabelle Boulais was victorious on court two. Northwestern won the final three matches, overcoming first-set losses on courts three, four and five. The team point came down to a third-set tiebreaker on court five.
- In the last Big Ten match between the teams, Ohio State and Northwestern met in Columbus March 7, 2020, with the Buckeyes winning, 5-2. Coming from behind after losing the doubles point, the Buckeyes took over in singles to claim the victory with five singles wins, including from current Buckeyes Kolie Allen, Dormet and Cantos Siemers.
- Northwestern is No. 37 in this week’s ITA rankings. Clarissa Hand is No. 118 in singles and is No. 78 in doubles, paired with Maria Shusharina.
- The Wildcats are 11-5 on the year and 6-0 in the Big Ten, with wins over Wisconsin, Minnesota, Rutgers, Maryland, Nebraska and Iowa.
Ohio State vs. Purdue

- Three Buckeyes and a doubles team are in the ITA individual rankings released this week. Junior Irina Cantos Siemers is seventh, while senior Isabelle Boulais is No. 32 and freshman Sydni Ratliff is No. 56. The duo of Cantos Siemers and Ratliff is No. 22.
Buckeye This and That
- Ohio State was 2-0 against the teams from Michigan last weekend in Columbus, defeating the Wolverines 4-3 and the Spartans 4-0 Friday and Sunday, respectively.
- In the match against the Wolverines, the Buckeyes led 2-0 after earning the doubles point and a straight-set victory from Irina Cantos Siemers. Michigan won three straight singles matches to go ahead 3-2, with the remaining two matches in a third set. Lucia Marzal and Sydni Ratliff both prevailed in the final set, 6-4, to clinch the win for Ohio State. A singles win from Cantos Siemers, along with the doubles point from victories by the duos of Isabelle Boulais and Kathleen Jones and Marzal and Cantos Siemers, contributed to the team win.
- Against Michigan State, Ratliff and Cantos Siemers both posted singles and doubles wins, while Boulais also won in singles and Jones and Marzal were part of doubles victories.
- The Buckeyes are 5-0 in Big Ten play, with road wins over Penn State, Nebraska and Iowa and the home victories over Michigan and Michigan State.
- The Buckeyes are 5-0 at home this year.
- Ratliff was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week for the third time this season after clinching both victories last weekend and chipping in a doubles win.
