
Buckeyes Suffer Setback Against No. 21 James Madison

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's lacrosse team made its 2022 Ohio Stadium debut on Friday afternoon, falling 15-4 to No. 21 James Madison. The Buckeyes are 3-3 on the season while JMU improves to 3-2.
The Short Story
The Dukes built a 9-1 halftime lead and led by as many as 10 goals, 12-2, at the end of three quarters on the strength of a five-goal game from Isabella Peterson. Ohio State got two goals from Lindsay Epstein with single tallies coming by Chloe Johnson and Jamie Lasda. Nicole Ferrara and Johnston both finished with assists.
Buckeye goalkeeper Regan Alexander made eight saves, five of which came in the first quarter.
How the Goals Were Scored
- James Madison controlled the first quarter, outscoring Ohio State 4-0 and getting scores from four different players.
- Brittany Bill began the scoring at the 9:27 mark and that followed single goals from Taylor Marchetti, Kacey Knobloch and Peterson.
- The Buckeyes broke through and got on the scoreboard at the 13:04 mark of the second quarter as Epstein scored unassisted. Less than two minutes later, JMU answered back and would score four more times in the quarter to take a 9-1 halftime lead.
- Epstein and Ferrara connected on a goal five minutes into the third quarter to cut the James Madison lead to 9-2, but the Dukes scored three more times in the quarter to take a 12-2 lead into the fourth quarter.
- The Buckeyes were able to string together back-to-back goals at the 12:56 and 11:51 marks of the fourth quarter courtesy of Lasda and Johnson.
- James Madison, however, closed out the scoring with three straight tallies in the final 11 minutes of the fourth quarter for the final 15-4 margin.

What's Next
Ohio State hits the road for a contest on Wednesday at Duquesne. Game time is set for 5 p.m. in Pittsburg, Pa. The Buckeyes return home next Saturday, March 12, when they take on Mount Saint Mary's at noon inside Ohio Stadium. The game is part of a lacrosse doubleheader at Ohio Stadium that day, with the men's team set to take on Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m.
