Baez Tabbed B1G Offensive Player of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophie Baez, a graduate student on the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team, was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday after a five-assist, seven-point outing Saturday in the Buckeyes’ win over Penn State.
Baez, a native of Marietta, Ga., who plays attack for the Buckeyes, scored twice and set up five goals – including the final two in the game’s last six minutes as Ohio State came from behind to win. The seven points were one shy of the career-best eight she had against Niagara March 3, 2019 and the five assists were a career high, passing the three she had in that game vs. Niagara. Baez entered the game with three assists in her first 10 games this year.
In the fourth quarter against Penn State, Baez set up the game-tying goal at 5:43 with OSU down 10-11 on the scoreboard and a player down and then assisted on the gamewinner at 2:53. Her goals came in the first half (including a player-down tally), while she had two assists in the second quarter and another helper in the third quarter on a goal that put Ohio State in the lead at the time.
This is the second career weekly honor for Baez, who was also named Offensive Player of the Week March 5, 2019.
This year, Baez has 14 goals and 8 assists for 22 points while playing in all 11 games, along with 12 ground balls.
Baez and Ohio State will be on the road for the next two games, starting with a nonconference matchup at Louisville at 7 p.m. Thursday, with the game on ACC Network. The Buckeyes will return to Big Ten play with a 7:30 p.m. game on BTN at Michigan April 8.
