No. 4 Buckeyes Host Xavier Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4 Ohio State women’s tennis team hosts Xavier at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in its only home match in March. Admission is free to the match. Note multiple events are occurring on campus Saturday that will have an impact on traffic and parking. Parking will be free for tennis guests in the Schumaker and Woody Hayes Athletic Center lots. The Buckeyes enter the match 7-3 on the year and on a five-match winning streak, with Xavier 6-5.

Buckeyes vs. Musketeers
- Ohio State is 3-0 all-time vs. Xavier.
- The Buckeyes posted 7-0 wins in 2006 and 2010 and a 6-1 victory in 2016. The first three meetings were all in Columbus.
- Three Buckeyes – Lina Ali, Kolie Allen and Dani Schoenly – competed in the UC/Xavier Invite hosted by the Bearcats and Musketeers in the fall in Cincinnati.
- Xavier is 6-5 this season, with a 1-2 road mark. The Musketeers have faced four Big Ten schools this year: Purdue (L 0-7), Michigan State (L 2-5), Penn State (L 0-4) and Indiana (W 5-0)
In the Rankings
- Ohio State is No. 4 in the ITA team rankings for the third week in a row (since computer rankings started). It is the highest ranking since the squad was No. 2 March 3, 2020.
- In the Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25, Ohio State moved up one to fourth this week.
- Eight of the 10 teams the Buckeyes have faced so far this season are ranked in the ITA Top 16 this week (six in the Top 10) – No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 North Carolina State, No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 9 Auburn, No. 13 Florida and No. 16 Tennessee. The Buckeyes’ other opponents are No. 43 Kentucky and No. 67 Penn State.
- Three Buckeyes and a doubles team were in the ITA rankings released this week, with all reaching career highs. Junior Irina Cantos Siemers was fourth, while senior Isabelle Boulais was No. 19 and freshman Sydni Ratliff was No. 43 The duo of Cantos Siemers and Ratliff moved up to No. 15. Boulais is the fifth Buckeye to be ranked in the Top 20 in program history.
Buckeye This and That
- The Buckeyes opened Big Ten play last Friday, with a 7-0 win at Penn State. The Buckeyes swept doubles with three 6-4 wins vs. the Nittany Lions. In singles, Ohio State posted four three-set victories, a super tiebreaker win and a win by default for the 7-0 victory.
- Ohio State is 3-0 at home this season, with wins during ITA Kickoff Weekend over Oklahoma State and Tennessee Jan. 29-30 and a victory against Pepperdine Feb. 27.
- Boulais leads the Buckeyes with an 8-2 record in dual matches this spring, while Allen, Ratliff and Cantos Siemers each have seven singles victories. Overall this season, Cantos Siemers is first with 22 singles victories. Ratliff is second with 17, followed by Lucia Marzal with 14 and Madeline Atway with 12.
- In doubles dual matches, Ratliff has a team-high six wins and Cantos Siemers is second with five, while Marzal, Luna Dormet and Boulais each have four.
- In singles, Ohio State has compiled an 8-2 record on court three to lead the team, with a 7-2 mark on court one and 7-3 ledger on court two. Courts four and six have each recorded six wins.
The Schedule Ahead
- The Buckeyes will play their next four matches away from Columbus. Next week, the team will play at No. 23 Georgia Wednesday (March 16), before Big Ten matches at Iowa Friday, March 18 and at Nebraska Sunday, March 20. They will close out the stretch of road matches at Arizona State Sunday, March 27.
- Seven Big Ten matches are on the docket for April, including five in Columbus.
- Admission is free to all regular season home matches and live video and scoring will be available.
