Buckeye Men and Women Combine for 10-1 Mark at NU Winter Duals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On day one of the NU Winter Duals hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., the Ohio State men’s fencing team was 5-0, with the women 5-1.
The men defeated UNC, Boston College and Air Force by 19-8 scores, downed Stanford 16-11 and prevailed over Wayne State 23-4. For the women, they notched 20-7 wins against Temple and Air Force, beat Stanford and Boston College 18-9 and topped host Northwestern 15-12, along with a 16-11 loss to Cornell.
The men are now 20-6 on the year, with the women 20-8.
The men’s foil and epee squads swept their matchups, with sabre 4-1. Women’s sabre and foil both were 5-1 and epee was 4-2.
Individually, Alina Lee had a Buckeye-best 13 wins for the day, going 13-3 in women’s foil. Miranda Freedman and Camilla Rivano both picked up nine wins in women’s foil. Ele Perrier had 12 wins to lead women’s sabre, followed by Julieta Toledo with 10. In women’s epee, Montserrat Viveros was first with eight victories, with Katherine Dyner second with seven.
Edriss Ndiaye had nine wins in foil to pace the Buckeye men overall, with Nathan Wriedt second in foil with seven victories. Roscoe Swartz and Stephen Chou led men’s sabre with six victories apiece and Paul Veltrup had seven victories in epee, followed by Bence Bende and Miles Weiss with six each.
