
Buckeye Men and Women Post 4-0 Marks at NU Winter Duals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s fencing teams were both a perfect 4-0 on day two of the NU Winter Duals hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. The men end the two-day event 9-0 and the women were 9-1 over the two days. All six weapon squads were undefeated Sunday.
The Buckeye men are now 24-6 on the year, with the women 24-8.
The women posted a 25-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson, defeated UCSD 22-5, were 21-6 winners against Incarnate Word and topped North Carolina 18-9 Sunday.
On day two the men topped both Lawrence and Northwestern’s club team 24-3, defeated Incarnate Word 20-7 and prevailed over UCSD, 18-9.
Men’s foilist Edriss Ndiaye led all Buckeyes with a 10-1 mark, while Jack Price was 9-1 to lead men’s sabre and Miles Weiss had an 8-1 mark to pace men’s epee.
Claire Teresa Galavotti was first for the women with seven wins, fencing in foil, while Steph Miller was 6-0 to lead the women’s sabre squad in victories and Katherine Dyner paced women’s epee with a 6-0 mark.
Stephen Chou and Jadon Montgomery were second for men’s sabre with four wins each. In men’s foil, Justin Vogler and James Flanagan tied for second with six wins and Nathan Wriedt picked up five. Paul Veltrup was second on men’s epee with seven victories, followed by Matthew Comes with five.
Julieta Toledo was second on the women’s sabre squad with five wins. In foil, Miranda Freedman had six victories to rank second and Alina Lee was third with five. Montserrat Viveros was second in women’s epee with five wins on the day.

Looking Ahead
Ohio State will travel back to Evanston, Ill., for the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference championships Feb. 26-27.
NCAA Regional Coming to Columbus
Ohio State will play host to the NCAA Midwest Regional March 12 in French Field House. The event is a qualifier for the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 24-27 at Castellan Family Fencing Center in Notre Dame, Ind.
Teams expected to be represented in the regional tournament are Ohio State, Notre Dame, Lawrence, Denison, Cleveland State, Wayne State and Detroit Mercy.
