COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 5 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team opens Big Ten dual meet competition at No. 6 Illinois on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET. The meet will be streamed live on B1G+ (subscription required).
- The Buckeyes were picked to finish fifth in the Big Ten this season, according to the conference’s coaches’ poll, while the Fighting Illini were picked fourth.
- Ohio State currently has the highest ranked pommel horse unit, both as an average of team scores and the highest single-meet team score of the season so far.
- OSU opened the season with a second-place finish among seven teams at the Windy City Invite on Jan. 15 with a team score of 387.70. The team’s highest event total came on the vault (69.200) as all five Buckeyes scored at least 13.300.
- The Buckeyes improved their team score to 399.150 to beat New York Alliance in OSU’s home opener on Jan. 22 inside the Covelli Center.
- Against NYA, six gymnasts set seven new career-highs with three of those coming on the pommel horse. Donovan Hewitt was the lone gymnast to have two career-best routines, doing so on rings (14.200) and parallel bars (13.750).

ILLINOIS COVID POLICIES
With the recent surge in COVID-19 cases on the University of Illinois campus and throughout the Central Illinois region, the University will institute a proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative-test protocol for all university sponsored events open to the public with more than 200 people in attendance beginning January 1, 2022. All guests ages 12 and older entering Huff Hall will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination OR a negative COVID-19 PCR or rapid test taken within 72 hours of the event to enter the facility. The state of Illinois and University of Illinois remains under a mask mandate. Face coverings must be worn by all fans over the age of 5 years.
