Ohio State Athletics to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Title IX

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State University women student-athletes, teams, coaches and staff have achieved extraordinary success in competition and in life, and the department of athletics will begin a celebration of those achievements starting in March as part of Women's History Month.
The recognition of the outstanding women in Ohio State athletics will continue through the 2022-23 athletic calendar, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the landmark legislation that has had a significant impact on women's sports in the United States, in June.
"Women's history month, and in turn the milestone 50th anniversary of Title IX, allows us to take the time to celebrate and appreciate those that paved the way for our current student-athletes," Janine Oman, Ohio State Senior Deputy Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator, said.
Women now compete in 20 varsity sports at Ohio State – 17 women's sports and three co-ed. Across all programs, Buckeye women have won national and conference team and individual championships, Olympic medals, Academic All-America honors and more. Additionally, Ohio State sponsors a nationally prominent spirit squad that consistently wins competitions and championships.
Following their careers in the Scarlet and Gray, Ohio State women student-athletes have achieved success in professional and Olympic sports and outside of athletics. Those accomplishments – both in athletics and beyond – will be celebrated.
