
Ten Buckeyes Race at Women’s Last Chance Meet

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ten student-athletes on the No. 9 Ohio State women’s swim team raced one final time for NCAA qualifying times at the Last Chance Meet in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Sunday. The contingent of Buckeyes raced to eight NCAA B qualifying times.
Catherine Russo started off the day with a career-best time in the 100 butterfly. She finished in a time of 51.92 to earn the NCAA B cut.
Janessa Mathews and Leah Baker both earned NCAA provisional times in their respective 100 breaststroke races. Mathews (59.90) raced a career best finish in the event while Baker earned her best finish of the day in a time of 1:00.22 in the prelims.
In the 200 backstroke, Tristan Harrison led the Buckeyes with a personal record of 1:54.04 for the team’s best time in the event this season. Paige Hall, who raced a season-best time of 1:54.41, and Morgan Kraus (1:55.01) joined Harrison with NCAA B cuts in the event.
Mathews started the day with an NCAA provisional time of 2:10.95 in the 200 breaststroke. She followed that up with a career-best swim of 2:08.30 in the finals to improve her provisional time standing.
Swimming a time trial in the 100 IM were Allie Fenska and Meredith Moellering. Fenska raced a career-best time of 56.43 while Moellering also recorded a personal best finish of 58.84. Harrison raced the 100 butterfly on Sunday, earning a 52.99 finish in the event.
Meredith Moellering raced a time of 2:02.97 in the 200 butterfly. Mia Rankin went 16:25.67 in the 1650 freestyle. Claire Pophal also raced the mile for the Buckeyes, finishing in a time of 17:58.80.
