COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Kazuki Hayashi travels to Frisco, Texas this weekend to compete at the Winter Cup. There will be youth and team components, but the collegiate male competition will take place on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET and Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET. Friday evening’s competition will be broadcast on the Olympic Channel (TV login required) and Sunday’s on FlipNow.tv (subscription required).
- Ohio State ranks fifth in the country after a tri-meet win against No. 10 Army and No. 12 William & Mary last weekend.
- OSU ranks in the top six in the nation as a team in five events (based on a three-score average) – first on pommel horse (66.667), fourth on floor (68.067), fourth on rings (67.300), fifth on vault (71.317) and sixth on parallel bars (66.100).
- The Buckeyes are the only team in the country to score higher than 67.500 on pommel horse this season, posting a 67.900 in the victory against Michigan (2/12).
- Senior Jesse Tyndall was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on Monday following three stuck dismounts and two event wins last Saturday.
- Junior Donovan Hewitt was named College Gymnastics Association Specialist of the Week on Wednesday after posting the best vault score in the country last weekend (14.800) with a stuck landing for a new career-high.
- Hayashi has competed in every event at least once this season, recording career-bests on pommel horse and rings. He’s earned three scores of at least 14.000 on vault this season.
