Four Buckeyes Earn All-WCHA Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four Buckeyes earned were named to All-WCHA teams, the conference announced Thursday. Sophie Jaques was voted first team all-conference while Liz Schepers and Andrea Braendli earned second team recognition. Jenna Buglioni made the league’s third team.
Jaques, a senior defenseman from Toronto, Ont., picks up all-conference honors for the fourth time of her career. During the regular season, she recorded 53 points and a +43 on ice for the Buckeyes. Jaques is now the record holder for Ohio State points in a season by a defenseman and leads the country in assists per game (1.13). She is also tied for first in the NCAA with 10 power play goals on the year. Previously a third-team member in 2020 and 2021 and All-Rookie Team honoree in 2019, Jaques is the ninth Buckeye to earn First-Team All-WCHA honors.
Liz Schepers picks up her first career All-WCHA nod this season. She has tallied 41 points this year on 18 goals and 23 assists, including four game-winning goals and five power play goals. The Mound, Minn. native is the program record holder in games played in the Scarlet and Gray sweater with 163 games to date. Schepers, a fifth-year member of the Buckeyes’ program and current graduate student, ranks eighth in career assists as a Buckeye (70) and sixth in career goals (60).
2022 Beijing Winter Olympian Andrea Braendli earns her third All-WCHA postseason honor, and her second second-team award, this year. Braendli, who hails from Zurich, Switzerland, had posted a 9-3-0 record in goal for the Buckeyes before heading off to Beijing as the starting goaltender for Team Switzerland at the Olympics. The senior has made 231 saves on the year and owns a .924 save percentage. She is the winningest goaltender in program history with 56 wins for her career.
Sophomore Jenna Buglioni rounds out the Buckeye All-WCHA honors with her vote to the third team. A 2021 WCHA All-Rookie Team honoree, Buglioni started the season with a 14-game point streak for the second longest point streak in program history. On the year, the Port Moody, B.C. native has recorded 17 goals and 25 assists, ranking second on the team in points (42) this year. She is just one of five underclassmen who were named to the league’s first, season or third team honors.
Ohio State closed the regular season with a 25-6-0 record and earned the No. 2 seed in the WCHA playoffs with a 21-6-0 record in league play. The Buckeyes will face seven-seed St. Cloud State this weekend at the OSU Ice Rink. The quarterfinal round is a best two-of-three series with Ohio State’s matchup starting at 6 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, if necessary. The WCHA playoff games will be ticketed and fans can purchase single game or multi-game package deals online or at the St. John Arena ticket office on game day.
