COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2/3 Ohio State women’s hockey team closed its 2021-22 regular season in spectacular fashion, earning a 2-1 win over No. 3/2 Wisconsin for the team’s program-record 25th victory of the season. The Buckeyes (25-6-0, 21-6-0 WCHA) earned a series sweep of the Badgers (23-6-4-0, 18-8-3-0-3 WCHA) for just the third time in program history and the second time during the regular season.
How it Happened
The Buckeyes started the day off just how they ended yesterday – with a goal from junior Kenzie Hauswirth. Both teams went scoreless in the first period, but Hauswirth put the Buckeyes on the board at 1:32 into the second. The Farmington, Minn. native picked up a pass from Sara Saekkinen right in front of the Badger goal and sent the puck past Wisconsin’s Cami Kronish to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead.
Hauswirth continued her scoring spree, recording the Buckeyes’ second goal, and the game-winner, at 7:59 in the second frame. The Buckeyes threw a flurry of shots on the Wisconsin cage and Hauswirth was back in front of the goal to capitalized off a rebounded shot from Jenna Buglioni.
Wisconsin managed to respond at 17:36 in the second, but Ohio State staved off any attempt at a Badger comeback to secure the 2-1 win.
Amanda Thiele had another stellar performance in goal for the Buckeyes, earning 22 saves on the day. She improves to 11-3-0 this year for Ohio State.
