
Buckeyes Host Marquette in WHAC Sunday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2-0 Ohio State women’s lacrosse team will take on Marquette (1-2) at noon Sunday inside Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Admission is free to all Buckeye women’s lacrosse home games. University and City of Columbus policies are to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
The game will be streamed through the Big Ten Plus subscription service and live stats will be available.
Sunday, the Buckeyes will be styling their hair to support the Headstrong Foundation through the Game Hair Havoc initiative. The Headstrong Foundation works to raise awareness and funds for families overcome by cancer. DONATE
Buckeyes vs. Golden Eagles
- Ohio State and Marquette have met twice, with Ohio State winning both matchups.
- The first was in Columbus March 1, 2019, an 11-9 Buckeye victory, with the second March 7, 2020, when Ohio State posted a 16-14 win road win in Milwaukee.
- In the 2020 win, current Buckeye Nicole Ferrara scored four times. Other current Buckeyes to tally were Ali Beekhuizen, Sophie Baez and Ashley Turner who each scored twice and Caly O’Brien and Maura McGregor with one goal each.
- Marquette is 1-2 this year. It started the season with a home win over Cincinnati (16-13), before road losses to Northwestern (24-13) and Louisville (18-9).
Buckeye This and That
- Ohio State is coming off an 18-9 win at Cincinnati Wednesday to move to 2-0 on the season. Against the Bearcats, Clare Johnston led Ohio State with four goals and five points, while Jamie Lasda had four points with two goals and two assists. Nicole Ferrara and Chloe Johnson each had three-point days with two goals and an assist and Ali Beekhuizen and Lindsay Epstein had two-goal performances. Johnson had a team-high 10 draw controls, with Janie Cowley recording four, along with three caused turnovers. In goal, Regan Alexander had 13 saves for the Buckeyes for the win.
- Ferrara leads the Buckeyes with eight points this year, sharing the team goal scoring lead with Lasda with five each and standing first with three assists. Johnson has a team-best 21 draw controls.
- Johnson now has 116 draw controls as a Buckeye, moving into a tie for sixth in program history with Baley Parrott (2016-19). Next up is Regina Oliver, who had 121 from 2002-05. Johnson had 11 draw controls in the season opener vs. Robert Morris and 10 against Cincinnati. She had two goals, an assist and three points in each of the first two games this season.
- Johnston’s four goals and five points against Cincinnati were all a career best. She had three goals in eight games combined a season ago.
- Five Buckeyes enter the game vs. Marquette on scoring streaks of three games or better – Beekhuizen (8 games, 11g, 2a, 13p), Ferrara (7 games, 21g, 6a, 27p), Epstein (7 games, 13g, 6a, 19p), Lasda (3 games, 6g, 2a, 8p) and Johnson (3 games, 5g, 2a, 7p).
- The Buckeyes’ game at Louisville March 31 will be televised by ACC Network and the game at Johns Hopkins April 23 will be on ESPNU. Both games will be available through the ESPN app for fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider. BTN has not yet announced its conference television schedule. Ohio State regular season home games not televised will be streamed through the Big Ten Plus subscription service.
The Schedule Ahead
- Ohio State heads to Colorado next weekend for two games. The Buckeyes will face No. 15 Denver at 3 p.m. ET Friday (Feb. 25) and play at Colorado at 3 p.m. ET Sunday (Feb. 27).
- The Buckeyes will then return home to host No. 13 James Madison at 3 p.m. March 4, with the game expected to be played outdoors in Ohio Stadium.
- Admission is free to all Ohio State women’s lacrosse regular season home games.
