
No. 11 Ohio State Posts Road Win at Kentucky

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With five singles wins, the No. 11 Ohio State women's tennis team posted a 5-2 road win over Kentucky Friday in Lexington, Ky.
Ohio State (5-3) dropped the doubles point against the Wildcats (9-1), with the tandem of Sydni Ratliff and Isabelle Boulais notching a win for Ohio State. Irina Cantos Siemers, Ratliff and Kolie Allen pushed the Buckeyes to a 3-1 lead with straight set singles wins. After Kentucky made the score 3-2, Lucia Marzal clinched the win with a straight set victory and freshman Shelly Bereznyak closed out the day with a win on court five. Kentucky's facility has four courts, with the top four courts starting and Nos. 5 and 6 filling in as matches finished.
In Doubles
- The Wildcats won on courts two and three for the doubles point and 1-0 lead.
- Kathleen Jones and Irina Cantos Siemers fell on court two to Carla Girbau and Ellie Eades.
- The Buckeyes responded, with Sydni Ratliff and Isabelle Boulais winning 6-4 over Fiona Arrese and Florenica Urrutia. The Buckeyes were down 3-1 but won three games in a row to go ahead 4-3. The Wildcats won the next game, but Ohio State took the final two games for the match.
- Doubles was decided on court three, where Kolie Allen and Luna Dormet fell to Carlota Molina and Lidia Gonzalez, 6-4. The Buckeyes overcame an early break to tie the match at four, but Kentucky won the last two games.
In Singles
- 6-ranked Irina Cantos Siemers dropped just four games on court one against Carla Girbau to tie the match at one, downing the Wildcat, 6-3, 6-1.
- Freshman and No. 77-ranked Sydni Ratliff followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Fiona Arrese on court three. The Buckeyes won the last four games in the first and second sets.
- On court four, Kolie Allen was a 6-3, 6-4 winner against Florencia Urrutia to put the Buckeyes ahead 3-1. In the first set, she won the final five games and she had an early break in set two to lead to the win.
- Kentucky posted a win on court two, with Carlota Molina defeating No. 21 Isabelle Boulais, for a 3-2 match.
- 114 Lucia Marzal clinched the win, as she topped Ellie Eades in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, on court six.
- Freshman Shelly Bereznyak prevailed in a super tiebreak on court five for the final, downing Lidia Gonzalez. The Buckeyes won the first set but dropped the second. Bereznyak took control in the breaker, winning 10-4.
