Quoting head coach Steve Rohlik
"You go into it and have seven seniors that are playing tonight and you want everything for them and everything for the team. Obviously the script went sideways right from the start. They scored in the first minute. We just weren't ourselves. I give them credit, they're a good hockey team with a lot of skill. For the first time this year we just didn't look like ourselves."
The Short Story
The Gophers scored just 45 seconds into the game. Buckeye Tate Singleton tied the game with an unassisted goal at 15:10, but Minnesota scored twice in the final 1:29 of the period – 43 seconds apart – for a 3-1 lead after the first 20 minutes. Minnesota extended the lead to 4-1 3:54 into the second period and added the final goal at 9:48 of the third.
The Buckeyes were outshot, 50-30. Jakub Dobeš made 40 saves for the Buckeyes, his sixth game with 40-plus stops this season.
Minnesota was 1-for-3 on the power play, with the Buckeyes 0-for-4.
