Five Ohio State Women’s Hockey Players Advance to Olympic Semifinals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s hockey will be represented on each team in the Olympic semifinals set for Feb. 14 at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Andrea Braendli (Switzerland), Jincy Dunne (United States), Emma Maltais (Canada), Natalie Spooner (Canada) and Minttu Tuominen (Finland) will all battle for a spot on the Olympic podium.
In the first quarterfinal matchup of the games, Jincy Dunne and the United States earned a 4-1 victory over Czechia to advance to the semifinal round. Dunne has played in five games of the tournament, recording three assists with a +3 on ice.
The second matchup of the quarterfinals saw three Buckeyes face off against each other. Natalie Spooner and Emma Maltais helped Team Canada to an 11-0 win over Sofie Lundin and Team Sweden. Spooner recorded a goal and an assist while Maltais won 11 faceoffs to help the Canadians past the Swedes. Lundin finished her first Olympics with two assists in five games played.
Braendli and Team Switzerland won their quarterfinal rematch against the ROC, taking a 4-2 win to secure a spot in the semifinals. Braendli made 22 saves to help her team back to the Olympic semifinals for the first time since 2014.
The final quarterfinal matchup featured Minttu Tuominen and Team Finland taking a 7-1 win over Japan. Tuominen earned a +1 on ice rating in 17:28 minutes played for her team. Finland will earn a top four finish at the Olympics for the sixth time in seven Olympic tournaments.
Spooner and Maltais face off against Braendli in the first semifinal game at 11:10 p.m. ET on Sunday. Tuominen and Dunne meet Monday morning at 8:10 a.m. ET.
