COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Throughout the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Ohio State Athletics continues to celebrate exceptional female student-athletes and women’s teams throughout history, highlighting a new moment or person every week. This week’s feature is on the women’s gymnastics team and its five consecutive Big Ten titles from 1983-87. Visit OhioStateBuckeyes.com to read more about it.
Here are this week’s Buckeye Spotlight student-athletes:
Mackenzie Crawford | Women’s Swimming & Diving | Sr. | Ypsilanti, Mich.
- Crawford helped the No. 5 Buckeyes to a dominant 224-71 dual meet victory over Akron on Friday, Nov. 4.
- Crawford won the 1-meter dive with a score of 309.38 and the 3-meter dive with an overall score of 339.60.
- All of Crawford’s scores so far this season have been NCAA Zones qualifying scores.

Emma Goldean | Field Hockey | Sr. | Charlotte, N.C.
- Goldean conclude her Ohio State career last week as the 20th-ranked Buckeyes hosted the Big Ten Tournament.
- In a quarterfinal game against No. 2 Maryland, she assisted on Ohio State’s second goal of the contest.
- For her efforts, Goldean was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team.
- Earlier in the week, she took home second team all-Big Ten honors; it was the second time in her career that Goldean earned all-conference honors.
- Goldean finished her career as Ohio State’s all-time leader in games played (90) and games started (87).

Quinn Kuntz | Women’s Hockey | Sr. | Warroad, Minn.
- Saturday’s women’s hockey game against St. Thomas marked a day of firsts for senior goaltender Quinn Kuntz
- She earned her first career start for the Buckeyes and helped the team to a 4-0 win over the Tommies
- The game marked her first win and first shutout of her collegiate career
- Kuntz made a career-high 16 saves, including a penalty shot and breakaway saves, in the game

Isaac Likekele | Men’s Basketball | Grad. | Arlington, Texas
- Isaac Likekele is the most veteran player on this year’s men’s basketball team full of new faces. He was voted a captain and he’s going to need to be a rock for the Buckeyes this season.
- In his Ohio State debut on Monday night vs. Robert Morris, he certainly was.
- Check out this stat line: 9 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, 2 steals, 30 minutes
- Others got the headlines and the photos, but Likekele is more than fine with that. He’s going to keep doing his thing and being a leader for his team.

Keagan McLaughlin | Men’s Soccer | Sr. | Zanesville, Ohio
- McLaughlin recorded his fifth shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory over Michigan State in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament last Friday
- Faced just five shots and made two saves vs. the No. 6 seed Spartans
- Named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year by the league coaches
- Leads the conference in shutouts (5), goals against average (.923) and save percentage (.782)
- Will be between the pipes when No. 3 Ohio State faces No. 2 Rutgers on the road Wednesday (6 p.m./BTN)

Yeva Mazur | Women’s Fencing | So.| Khmelnistky, Ukraine
- Yeva Mazur claimed the gold medal at the FIE Junior World Cup in San Jose, Costa Rica last week.
- She then joined her Buckeye teammates in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Western Invitational.
- Mazur was 6-1 during the collegiate event, including 3-0 records vs. both Columbia and North Carolina.
- Ohio State’s women were 4-3 in the invitational and are now 10-3 this year.

Ethan Smith | Wrestling | R-Sr. | Latrobe, Pa.
- Smith was one of eight Buckeyes, five in the Open Division, to win titles at the MSU Open last Saturday
- Won five matches in the 174 bracket to claim the championship
- Earned a pair of victories over ranked foes, a 3-1 by decision win over No. 16 Ed Ruth of Illinois in the semifinals and vs. No. 23 Troy Fisher from Northwestern in the finals (D, 10-5)
- All five wins were against Big Ten conference opponents
- Will be in the starting lineup Friday when No. 4 Ohio State opens the dual season against No. 14 Virginia Tech at the Covelli Center (7 p.m./B1G+)

Miles Weiss | Men’s Fencing | So.| Houston, Texas
- Miles Weiss led all Buckeyes in wins during the two-day Western Invitational last weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo.
- The epee fencer was 15-3, including 3-0 showings vs. Stanford, Columbia and NJIT.
- Weiss and the Buckeye men were 7-1 during the event, improving to 13-1 this season.
