COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Throughout the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Ohio State Athletics continues to celebrate exceptional female student-athletes and women’s teams throughout history, highlighting a new moment or person every week. Here are this week’s Buckeye Spotlight student-athletes:
Davis Burnside | Men’s Hockey | Scottsdale, Ariz. | Fr.
- Davis Burnside notched both Buckeye goals in the team’s 4-2 loss to No. 1-ranked Minnesota last Saturday. with each coming on the penalty kill.
- He is the fourth Buckeye with two shorthanded goals in a game, joining Paul Pooley (Feb. 14, 1981 at Bowling Green), Dave Steckel (Nov. 29, 2003 at Bowling Green) and Kenny Bernard (Nov. 9, 2006 vs. Western Michigan).
- The Buckeyes’ last game with two shorthanded goals as a team was Nov. 24, 2018 vs. Penn State (Sasha Larocque, Brendan Kearney).
- Ohio State, ranked ninth nationally this week after splitting with the top-ranked Gophers, leads the nation with five shorthanded goals as a team and is third nationally on the penalty kill, stopping 94.6 percent of its opponents’ chances through the first 10 games.
Freshman Davis Burnside scored TWO shorthanded goals vs. the Gophers.
He is the fourth Buckeye with two SHG in a game and first since Kenny Bernard Nov. 9, 2006.

Charlie Clark | Men’s Swimming | Jr. | Sandusky, Ohio
- Charlie Clark helped the men’s swimming and diving team to a 187.5-165.5 dual meet win over Virginia Tech to open the 2022-23 season.
- Clark swam an impressive time of 9:02.58 in the 1000 free, placing first and finishing 17 seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer.
- He also won the 500 free with a time of 4:22.72 and had about a seven-second lead on the second-place finisher.
- This Thursday-Saturday, Clark will swim in the final leg of the 2022 FINA World Cup in Indianapolis, Ind.
Addie Engel | Women’s Cross Country | Springfield, Ohio | So.
- Big Ten Champion! Addie Engel of the pulled away in the final kilometer to win the 2022 Big Ten Championship Friday, the first individual title in program history.
- Engel earned First Team All-Big Ten honors for the second year in a row. She was joined by Daniella Santos and Andrea Kuhn on the all-conference first team, as they both notched Top 7 finishes as well. Ohio State was the only school with three finishers in the Top 12 and only one other school had two in the Top 8, while the Buckeyes had three.
- Engel is the first Buckeye to earn First Team All-Big Ten honors twice.
- This year, Engel has placed in the Top 2 in all five races she has competed in. Dating back to the start of last season, she has been in the Top 16 of every race, outside the NCAA Championships.

Devyn Etling | Men’s Soccer | Gr. | Ashland, Ohio
- Devyn Etling scored a pair of goals in a comeback attempt at Wisconsin in the regular-season finale in Madison Sunday.
- It was his second career game with two scores.
- He owns 16 career goals as a Buckeye in 60 matches played.
- He has seven points this season, the most since he totaled 13 points as a sophomore in 2019.
- Etling will lead the Buckeyes in a home Big Ten Tournament game vs. Michigan State Friday at JOMS (7 p.m./B1G+).

Amy Fulmer | Women’s Swimming | Sr. | Bellefontaine, Ohio
- Amy Fulmer was instrumental in the Buckeyes’ 231.5-121.5 dual meet win over Virginia Tech to open the season.
- She tied for first place in the 100 free, finishing with an NCAA B standard time of 49.21.
- Fulmer also won the 100 free with a time of 1:47.55.
- She was on the first-place 200 free, 400 medley and 200 medley relay teams and was on the second-place 400 medley relay team.
Emma Maltais | Women’s Hockey | Gr. | Burlington, Ont.
- Emma Maltais tied the Ohio State program record for career points last weekend with three assists in the Buckeyes’ shootout win over Minnesota.
- The graduate forward has now recorded 170 points (56 goals, 114 assists) in 140 games as a Buckeye. She is tied with Laura McIntosh (2009-12) for the record for the most career points, and also most career points by a forward.
- This season, Maltais has tallied a goal and 11 assists in 10 games for Ohio State. She sits at second in the program record book for career assists and is just nine helpers away from McIntosh’s record of 123.

Sarah Sue Morbitzer | Women’s Volleyball | Jr. | Groveport, Ohio
- Junior defensive specialist Sarah Sue Morbitzer was an integral part of the Buckeyes’ back line in wins against RV Michigan and at No. 11 Penn State last week, averaging 3.25 digs per set.
- She recorded a career-high 16 digs in the victory at Penn State on Saturday after reaching 10 digs in the win against Michigan on Wednesday.
- This is the second time in her career that she recorded back-to-back 10-dig performances.
- This season, Morbitzer is averaging 1.92 digs per set.

Dasha Myroniuk | Fencing | Kiev, Ukraine | Fr.
- In her first collegiate competition, Dasha Myroniuk took home gold, placing first at the OSU Open Saturday in French Field House.
- She and her teammates made up the final four in women’s foil, with Myroniuk winning 15-10 in the semifinals and 15-8 in the final over fellow Buckeyes.
- Myroniuk was 6-0 in pool competition before entering the 64-team table. She had a bye in the first round before winning 15-1 in the second. She prevailed 15-8 in the quarterfinals.
