
Ohio State Begins the New Year With an 8-2 Win Over Lindenwood

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s hockey opened the new year with an 8-2 win over Lindenwood on Friday evening at the OSU Ice Rink. The No. 2 Buckeyes improve to 16-3-0 overall this season while the Lions fall to 5-14-0.
How it Happened
After more than a month since their last game, the Buckeyes continued their nation-leading scoring ways Friday night. Madison Bizal scored the first Ohio State goal of the new year, putting the team up 1-0 just 2:05 into the game. Jenn Gardiner added another at 13:20 to build the Buckeye lead to two after the first period.
Ohio State lit the lamp three more times in the second period, with Paetyn Levis netting the third goal of the game 53 seconds after puck drop. Buglioni added her second point of the game as she scored right as the Buckeye penalty clock expired to put Ohio State up 5-0 on Lindenwood. To end the third period scoring effort for the Buckeyes, Hadley Hartmetz sent the puck in from the blue line past the Lions’ goaltender.
The final frame saw another three goals from Ohio State to close out the night. Sophie Jaques scored the team’s first two goals of the period, first on the power play at 2:08 and then again at 7:41. Liz Schepers netted the team’s final goal of the game at 11:13. Lindenwood added two goals in the third period to bring the final score to 8-2
Andrea Braendli earned her 12th start of the season in game one against the Lions. She made 22 saves on the night to earn her ninth win of the season and 56th for her career.
Game Notes
- Ohio State improves to 7-0 against Lindenwood in the all-time series.
- Sophie Jaques and Liz Schepers led the Buckeyes with three points on the night. Jaques scored a team-high two goals and Schepers added a team-high two assists.
- Jaques scored the Buckeyes’ lone power play goal of the game. She has scored nine power play goals this season and continues to lead the nation in power play scoring.
- Madison Bizal’s first period goal is her first of the season. The senior added an assist for two points on the night, tying her career single game high, and brought her career point total to 51. She has scored six goals in her Buckeye career.
- Clair DeGeorge extended her point streak to 11 games with an assist for the Buckeyes. Schepers also kept her point streak alive, bringing the streak to 10 games with the win.
- Schepers’ three points ties her career high single game point total, which she has reached nine times for her career and two times this season.
- Seven different Buckeyes scored a goal against Lindenwood while 11 of 19 skaters recorded a point.
