Buckeyes Earn Highest Ranking Since 1994

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its weekly rankings on Monday. The Buckeyes were tied for fourth after being ranked sixth last Monday. View full rankings HERE.
This is the highest Ohio State has been ranked since the 1994 season, when the Buckeyes were ranked fourth in the final three polls. Last season, Ohio State topped out at No. 8 on April 5 and spent the final five polls in the top 10. The most recent time before last week the Buckeyes were ranked sixth was on October 12, 2015.
Ohio State (5-0) won the Red Raider Classic last weekend to move up two spots in the AVCA rankings. The Buckeyes began the weekend with a sweep (25-13, 25-11, 25-14) of Rhode Island. OSU’s defense forced Rhody to hit in the red (-.012) for the match. Emily Londot led the Ohio State offense with eight kills while Arica Davis hit .778. The Buckeyes earned a four-set win (25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 25-15) over Texas State in the first match on Saturday. On the net, OSU totaled 10 blocks for the third time this season while the offense had its highest hitting percentage of the season (.370). The Buckeyes led for the entirety of set one before the Bobcats scored first in the second set. Mia Grunze scored the final three points for OSU in set two to secure the set. The third set was tied at 23 but Texas State scored the final two points to take the set. A Bobcats attack error sealed the match after the Buckeyes dominated the fourth set. Ohio State swept host Texas Tech (25-14, 25-15, 25-13) to win the tournament. Rylee Rader was named Tournament MVP while Emily Londot and Kylie Murr were named to the All-Tournament Team. The teams traded points to begin the match before the Buckeyes pulled away after being tied at seven. Ohio State outscored the Red Raiders 6-3 to take the first set. OSU jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in set two and would allow TTU no closer than four points during set two.
