COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State struck first in the eighth minute, Indiana pulled even in 61st minute and the defenses then took over the rest of the way as the Buckeyes and Hoosiers tied 1-1 on Thursday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
This was the first overtime match of the season for the Buckeyes who are now 7-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in Big Ten play. Indiana is also 2-1-1 in conference action and 8-2-2 overall.
Buckeye goalkeeper Bailey Kolinski made a season-high 10 saves on the night, including a couple of spectacular leaping, diving stops. Offensively, senior Kayla Fischer scored her fifth goal of the season.
How it Happened
The Buckeyes jumped in front quickly with a Kayla Fischer goal in the 8th minute. She collected a rebound off a point-blank shot by freshman Kailyn Dudukovich and slid it past the diving Indiana keeper.
After the Buckeyes took a 1-0 lead at the break, Indiana got the equalizer in the 61st minute. Bailey Kolinski made her first spectacular sprawling save of the night and knocked the ball out over the endline. The Hoosiers ensuing corner kick was then headed by home by Jen Blitchok to tie the match at 1-1.
Neither team was able to win it in regulation and the game headed to overtime. In the first extra session, the Hoosiers had a great opportunity off a corner kick. Another header towards the net was saved off the line this time by Emaly Vatne. That was the best chance for either side in the first extra session.
The Buckeyes had a final effort with 20 seconds remaining in the second OT session but they weren’t able to connect with a nice corner kick by Kitty Jones Black.
