COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State is set the open the season on the road with a tough matchup at No. 15 BYU. The Cougars have won 10 or more games in 15 of the last 16 seasons and have lost just once at home in their last 22 home matches. The Buckeyes enter the season with a veteran group as 10 of 11 starters return from last year’s team that went to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Thursday night’s match will be aired live on BYUtv. The channel can be found on Comcast, DirecTV & Dish Network. Fans who don’t have those cable providers can utilize the BYUtv app which simply requires fans to create a free account to watch the match.
- This will be just the third matchup between the two teams. BYU won 3-0 in Columbus in 2016 and the teams tied 0-0 in Provo in 2017.
- The Buckeyes are coming off an 8-3-3 campaign this past spring that saw them earn a berth into the NCAA Championship. OSU beat Stony Brook 5-1 in the opening round and then fell to Santa Clara in the second round.
- The Cougars were 11-4-1 last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament where they fell 2-0 to Virginia in the opening round.
- The Buckeyes return 10 of 11 starters and 19 letterwinners from last year NCAA Tournament team.
- OSU also returns six of it’s top-seven point scorers.
- Kayla Fischer, Izzy Rodriguez and Emma Sears were all named 2021 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Players to Watch.
- Ohio State was selected third by the league’s head coaches in the preseason poll.
- Rodriguez was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Preseason Best XI Second Team.
- The Buckeyes’ next win will be the 300th in program history.
