COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team has been selected to participate in the 2021 NCAA Tournament and will travel North Carolina, site of the entire 2021 Spring Women’s Soccer Championships, to face Stony Brook (6-3) in a first-round matchup of the 48-team event. The Buckeyes and Seawolves will kick at 8 p.m. April 28. The game will be played at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
Ohio State is 7-2-3 on the year. The Buckeyes, who will be playing in their 14th NCAA Tournament and 10th in the last 12 seasons, hold a 12-12-2 record in NCAA Tournament contests, all under the direction of 24h-year head coach Lori Walker-Hock.
“What an honor to be included in this unprecedented tournament,” Walker-Hock, said. “We are thrilled that our body of work was valued and recognized by the committee. We are excited to play an opponent outside the Big Ten Conference. I am very proud of our staff and team. We all look forward to this next great challenge.”
The Buckeyes were well-represented on the 2021 All-Big Ten Teams. Kayla Fisher and Izzy Rodriguez were named to the First Team, Emma Sears to the Second team and Alyssa Baumbick and Talani Barnett to the Third Team. Rodriguez was named the league’s Defender of the Year and freshman Peyton McNamara earned the conference Freshman of the Year Award in addition to being named to the All-Freshman Team.
Stony Brook is returning to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons.
The Seawolves defended their America East postseason crown with a 1-0 victory against Binghamton in the league championship match last Saturday at UMass Lowell.
