STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Ohio State field hockey team (4-8) had its four-game winning streak snapped on Friday by Penn State (7-5), which earned a 2-1 win in State College. The Nittany Lions won the game on the strength of goals early in the first and third quarters and despite being outshot 16-6 by the Buckeyes.

How It Happened

The teams traded possession on the midfield for much of the first six minutes of the first quarter before Penn State broke through with the first scoring opportunity. The Nittany Lions scored on a goal by Sophia Gladieux, her 10th of the season. Abby Myers picked up an assist of the play.
A combined three shots were taken in the second quarter as the defensive battle continued. The Buckeyes were awarded the game’s first penalty corner and got a shot off the stick of Mackenzie Allessie, but it was saved by PSU goalkeeper Brie Barraco.
It took Penn State just over one minute into the third quarter to double its lead, getting a goal from Emma Spisak in the 31st minute to make the score 2-0. Grace Wallis was credited with an assist.
The Buckeyes would answer back late in the third quarter to cut the Penn State lead in half. After getting four penalty corners in the quarter, Ohio State finally converted on one when Delaney Lawler sent a shot past Barraco after passes from Mackenzie Allessie and Lotte Algra.
Ohio State pressed for the equalizer in the fourth quarter, outshooting Penn State 5-1 over the final 15 minutes, but couldn’t punch one in.
