STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Ohio State field hockey team managed to end its regular season on a high note Saturday thanks to Sarah Charley, who scored in overtime to lift the Buckeyes to a 3-2 win over No. 15 Penn State. The Buckeyes are 5-8 and will now turn their attention to the Big Ten Tournament, which begins on Wednesday vs. a familiar foe: Penn State. The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions (7-6) square off in a quarterfinal game on April 21 at 5 p.m. in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Buckeyes picked up Saturday's hard-fought win thanks to pair of first-half goals from Mckenzie Allessie – both on penalty strokes – and then the game-winner early in the overtime period by Charley. Allessie now has 11 goals and three assists for 25 points in her last seven games. Charley's goal was her third of the season and gives her nine points (three goals, three assists).

Allessie's first penalty stroke goal came just 2:22 into regulation and put Ohio State up 1-0 on its first shot of the game. In all, Ohio State outshot the Nittany Lions 7-2 in the first quarter and had a 5-0 edge in penalty corners.

Just 31 second into the second quarter, Allessie made it a two-for-two day on penalty strokes when she sent her second one past PSU goalkeeper Brie Barraco. That's the way the score stayed until Sophia Gladieux cut the Ohio State lead in half at the 19:15 mark of the first half.

Penn State would finally convert on the equalizer with less than five minutes to play when it completed a penalty corner by Bree Bednarski off assists from Sophia Gladieux and Elena Vos. Undaunted, however, the Charley goal to win the game for Ohio State came just 1:13 into the overtime period.

The Buckeyes, who outshot Penn State 17-14 and had a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners, won for the fifth time in six games to finish the regular season. Their matchup with Iowa to open the Big Ten Tournament will air live on Wednesday on the Big Ten Network.
