COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team stayed hot on Sunday, winning its fourth consecutive game with a convincing 5-0 shutout of Michigan State. The scoring column was highlighted by Mackenzie Allessie and Emma Goldean, who each scored twice. Sarah Charley also added a score early in the first quarter. Allessie had a six-point day, adding two assists as well.

In its current four-game winning streak, Ohio State has outscored its opponents 20-2. It has a 90-17 advantage in shots and 32-6 edge in penalty corners. Allessie has 21 of her 27 points this far during this stretch on nine goals and three assists.

"Great win today for the team," said head coach Jarred Martin. "Our defensive intensity was much improved and we moved the ball well. Those two elements help lead to the shutout win and some really good goal scoring opportunities. We have worked hard the last few weeks to find ways to use our speed and skill with simple decision making and it showed today. We intercepted a lot and looked composed with the ball because of our off ball movement."

The scoring for Ohio State started early as Charley found the back of the cage just 2:19 into the first quarter for her second goal of the year. The play was set up by Allessie, who tipped a ball into the circle before Charley did the rest.

Ohio State made the score 2-0 in the second quarter on Allessie's first of the day, which was set up by Lotte Algra off a penalty corner. That's how the score stayed until four and a half minutes into the third quarter when Goldean scored the first of her two on the day when he finished up a rebound off a penalty corner.

Twelve minutes later – early in the fourth quarter – Allessie finished up her two-goal day when he finished a fastbreak off a pass from Katie Pyle. Golden than rounded out the scoring at the 49:36 mark of the game when she finished a penalty corner off a pass from Allessie for the final 5-0 margin.

"Another two-win weekend in the Big Ten is always a great weekend," said Martin. "To also get a shutout against a quick Michigan State team is even better. I like where we are with our rotations, our game play, and our set pieces leading into our last regular season weekend. Momentum is building and we need to stay disciplined and focused leading into practice on Tuesday. This conference is so competitive so we need to make sure we are ready to go in all facets to play our best and give us a chance to win….starting with a very good Penn State team this upcoming weekend."

Ohio State outshot Michigan State 26-7 and held a 10-3 edge in penalty corners. Abby Danson made two saves in 48:19 of action before being replaced in the fourth quarter by Aaliyah Hernandez.

"I thought we were consistent across all four quarters," said Martin. "We kept great connections on both sides of the ball."
