
Buckeyes Back in Action at Notre Dame

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing program traveled to South Bend, Indiana, for the DeCicco Duals hosted by Notre Dame Saturday. The Buckeye men were 2-2 on the day, with wins over Lawrence and losses to Notre Dame, while the women were 1-3, splitting two matches with Northwestern and falling twice to the Irish.
The Buckeye women close the weekend in Evanston, Illinois, where they will face Lawrence beginning at noon ET Sunday.
Leaders
For the men, Nathan Wriedt led the foil squad with an 8-2 record, while Diego Cervantes and Will Gaziano each had four wins and Edriss Ndiaye had three victories. In epee, Matthew Comes had a squad-best five wins, with Henry Lange and Bence Bende both claiming four bouts. Benjamin Levitt and Stephen Chou were 6-0 in sabre, with Matthew Hayes, Roscoe Swartz and Nolan Williams all 4-2 and Jack Price 3-3.
On the women's side, Julieta Toledo was a team-best 9-3 in sabre, with Evie Bustamante second on the sabre squad with five wins. Camilla Rivano paced foil with seven victories and in epee Alexanne Verret had eight wins, with Montseratt Viveros posting seven victories.
Buckeyes vs. Irish
The Buckeyes and Irish faced off twice, with the Irish sweeping the day, posting two 14-13 wins in the men's matchups and two 20-7 victories in the women's competition.
For the Buckeye men, the sabre squad was 2-0 vs. the Irish (6-3, 5-4), while a close epee competition went to Notre Dame 5-4 in both rounds. The Irish took foil 6-3 and 5-4. On the day in sabre, Williams and Swartz both had four wins vs. the Irish, while Price had three victories. Wriedt led the foil squad with four victories against Notre Dame and Bende and Comes both had three epee wins vs. ND.
The Irish captured all three weapons in the two women's matches. Toledo led sabre with four wins vs. Notre Dame, Rivano had two victories against the Irish in foil and in sabre Verret had a squad-best four victories, with Viveros winning three bouts.
Buckeyes vs. Vikings
The Ohio State men swept Lawrence, with 26-1 and 25-2 victories. Sabre had two 8-1 wins, foil posted 9-0 victories and epee won 9-0 and 8-1.
In sabre, Levitt and Chou were both 6-0 vs. the Vikings and Hayes had four wins. For the foil squad, Wriedt and Gaziano notched four victories and Ndiaye and Cervantes each had two. Lange and Comes both had two wins in epee against the Vikings, who did not have a full roster in the weapon.
Buckeyes vs. Wildcats
Ohio State and Northwestern split their matches, with the Wildcats winning 16-11 and Ohio State closing the day with a 17-10 victory. The epee squad won twice (5-4, 6-3), while sabre fell 5-4 before rebounding for a 7-2 win and foil dropped both matchups (7-2, 5-4).
In epee, Viveros and Verret both had four victories on the day and Jessica Thow had three wins vs. the Wildcats. Toledo led the sabre squad with five wins against Northwestern, while Bustamante had four victories. Steph Miller picked up two victories on the day. Rivano had five wins to pace the foil squad.
