COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second time this weekend, the Ohio State field hockey team gave the No. 3 ranked team in the country all it could handle for 60 minutes. The result, unfortunately, was the same as Friday's contest: a 2-1 setback.

Ohio State (0-5) received a fourth-quarter goal from Sina Schwinn, but couldn't fully complete a comeback after falling behind 2-0 in the first quarter. Iowa, ranked No. 3 in this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, improves to 7-1.

"Another battle today but again credit to Iowa for sustaining our fourth quarter pressure and coming away with the win," said head coach Jarred Martin. "We made some good adjustments from Friday's game, but we're obviously disappointed with the same outcome. We were able to problem solve some intense moments with more composure, but I know there is more in our team. We expect more, we encourage more, and we will switch these close losses to victories for this team. Next weekend we play another top-five team so this week we will prepare, correct some areas, and be ready for a dangerous Northwestern team."

Both Hawkeye goals on the day were scored by Maddy Murphy. Just like on Friday, Iowa struck with early offense to build a two-goal lead. Murphy scored at the 8:02 mark of the first quarter unassisted when he dribbled into the circle and scored from six yards out. With just 12 seconds remaining in the opening quarter, she got another one off a pass from Alex Wesneski.

From there, however, the Hawkeyes didn't find the back of the cage as Ohio State's defense limited them to just four shots over the final 45 minutes of regulation. Neither team generated much offense in the second quarter with just three combined shots, but Ohio State has better attacking success in the second half with six total shots and three penalty corners.

The Buckeye goal, which came with just under 13:00 remaining in the fourth quarter, started on a penalty corner and ended with Schwinn tipping in a shot originally off the stick of Lotte Algra. It was the first career point for Algra and the first goal of the season for Schwinn, a junior from Rheinbach, Germany.

Freshman Abby Danson started for the second time in goal. She was aided by a defense in front of her that registered its first defensive save of the season, which went to freshman Sarah Richards.

Iowa finished with a 10-8 advantage in shots by Ohio State had the edge in the second half, 6-4. The Buckeyes had had three penalty corners to Iowa's two and for the season have a 27-13 edge over their opponents in corners.

The Buckeyes, who have played all five of their games this spring against top-10 ranked teams, have another test next weekend when they play two games at No. 4 Northwestern on Friday, March 26 and Sunday, March 28.
