
Buckeyes’ 3-0-1 Unbeaten Streak Snapped

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State, unbeaten in its last four games (3-0-1), went on the road looking to extend that streak, but the Wisconsin Badgers struck late with a goal in the 87th minute to send the Buckeyes home with a 1-0 defeat. The loss drops Ohio State’s record to 3-2-1 overall and in the Big Ten while Wisconsin improves to 1-5-1.
Ohio State had 11 shots to eight for Wisconsin with both teams having five shots on goal. Ohio State also held a commanding 12-2 advantage in corner kicks, but were unable to capitalize against the Wisconsin defense and keeper Carter Abbott.
The game winner came at 86:10 with Noah Melick sending the ball into the box from the left of the Ohio State goal that Michael Wampler stormed in to shove into the net for the only score of the game.
There was no score at halftime. Ohio State controlled possession, including an 8-0 advantage in first half corners, but it was Wisconsin that had the better scoring opportunities. Buckeye goalkeeper Noah Lawrence came up big twice in the half with saves, including one off a long set piece with just under three minutes to play.
Both teams had three shots on goal in the first half and two in the second. Thomas Gilej had two of Ohio State’s five shots on goal.
Ohio State will return home before travelling to State College, Pa., for a game March 23 against Penn State. Start time is still TBD.
