Pooley Receives Big Ten Sportsmanship Award

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Austin Pooley, captain of the Ohio State men’s hockey team, has received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for the Buckeyes, the B1G announced Tuesday.
Sportsmanship Award honorees are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Pooley, from Dublin, Ohio, is a finance major scheduled to graduate this spring. He is a two-time AHCA Scholar All-American, a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a three-time Ohio State Scholar Athlete.
He has been voted a two-time captain for the Buckeyes by his teammates, as an alternate captain as a junior and wearing the C as a senior, the first Central Ohio native to be a captain for the Buckeye men’s hockey team.
A forward, Pooley missed just three games in his four years with the team and had 11 goals, 16 assists and 27 points in 137 career games. He was part of two NCAA teams, including a Frozen Four trip in 2018, with the squad poised for another in 2020 before the remainder of the season was canceled. He was also part of the 2019 Big Ten regular season champion squad.
