
No. 9 Buckeyes Win 6-1 at Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 9-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team improved to 11-3 this season and 8-1 in Big Ten action with a 6-1 win at Penn State Sunday. Kolie Allen, Isabelle Boulais and Lucia Marzal all had wins in singles and doubles for the Buckeyes, with Irina Cantos Siemers and Luna Dormet also notching singles victories.
After three straight road matches, the Buckeyes will play their next two in Columbus, hosting Maryland at 4 p.m. Friday and Rutgers at 10 a.m. Sunday.
In Doubles
- The Buckeyes won the doubles point for the ninth match in a row.
- On court two, the Penn State tandem of Samantha Smith and Olivia Rohrbacher retired with the Buckeye duo of Lucia Marzal and Lisa Hofbauer leading 2-1.
- On court one the Scarlet and Gray team of Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen defeated Karly Friedland and Gabby O'Gorman 6-4 to clinch the doubles point. Boulais and Allen are 8-1 on court one this year.
- The court three match between Buckeyes Irina Cantos Siemers and Luna Dormet and Sofiya Chekhlystova and Alexandra Nielsen of the Nittany Lions was suspended with the score 4-all.
In Singles
- Allen dropped just two games against Friedland on court three for a 2-0 Ohio State lead, winning 6-0, 6-2.
- On court two Cantos Siemers, ranked 78th, was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Chekhlystova for a 3-0 Buckeye advantage.
- On court four Marzal defeated Nielsen, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the Buckeye team victory.
- Boulais rallied after dropping the first set to defeat O'Gorman on court one. Boulais was down 3-5 in the second set but came back to force a tiebreaker, which she won 7-5. The Buckeye then prevailed in a super tiebreaker, 10-3.
- Dormet pushed the Buckeye lead to 6-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court five over Olivia Ryan.
- The final match one court six went to a super tiebreaker. Alina Lebedeva of Penn State won the first set, 6-1, before Buckeye freshman Madeline Atway claimed the second, 7-5. The super tiebreaker went to Lebedeva, 10-5.
- Marzal is first for the Buckeyes with 13 overall wins this season, followed by Dormet and Cantos Siemers with 12 each. In dual play, Marzal is 11-1 and Dormet is right behind at 10-1.
