
No. 10 Buckeyes Top Terps, 6-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 10-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team defeated Maryland, 6-1, Friday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center, improving to 12-3 overall this season and 9-1 in Big Ten action. Against the shorthanded Terps (0-9), who had five active players, Irina Cantos Siemers led the Buckeyes with wins in both singles and doubles. Luna Dormet paired with Cantos Siemers for a doubles victory and Lucia Marzal, Lisa Hofbauer and Lina Ali all won in singles.
The Buckeyes close out the weekend at noon Sunday with a match against Rutgers outdoors at the Stickney Tennis Center. The match is not open to the general public; live video and scoring will be available HERE. In the event of inclement weather the match will be moved inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
In Doubles
- With just five active players, Maryland defaulted at No. 3 doubles and Ohio State won on court two for the doubles point.
- The Buckeyes have now won the doubles point in 10 matches in a row.
- The Ohio State duo of Luna Dormet and Irina Cantos Siemers defeated Minorka Miranda and Ebony Sampson, 6-3, winning the final four games, to clinch the doubles point. The Buckeye tandem is 7-0 in dual play this spring.
- On court one the Buckeye team of Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen led Ayana Akli and Eva Alexandrova 5-4 when the doubles point was clinched.
In Singles
- Ohio State started singles with a 2-0 lead from the doubles point and a forfeit of court six by the Terps.
- On court five Buckeye freshman Lina Ali claimed her first collegiate dual match win, as she defeated Sampson, 6-1, 6-4, holding for the win.
- Marzal improved to 12-1 in dual play with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Miranda on court three, breaking for the victory and clinching the team win.
- On court four Hofbauer was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Kulkarni. The graduate student is now 8-5 in dual matches.
- Cantos Siemers prevailed in a tiebreaker over Akli on court one. The Buckeye rallied to win the first set in a tiebreaker before Akli won the second set 6-0. In the super tiebreaker, Cantos Siemers jumped out to an 8-3 lead. Akli drew within one (8-7) but Cantos Siemers won the next two points to clinch the match.
- Marzal is first for the Buckeyes with 14 overall wins this season, followed by Cantos Siemers with 13. In dual play, Marzal is 12-1, Dormet is 10-1 and Cantos Siemers is 10-4 to lead the way.
