
No. 9 Buckeyes Clipped by No. 13 Northwestern at ITA National Team Indoors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a contest that saw five singles matches go to a third set, the No. 9 Ohio State women's tennis team fell to No. 13 Northwestern, 4-3, Sunday in consolation play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Stillwater, Okla.
The Wildcats won the doubles point and Buckeye senior Luna Dormet tied the match with a straight-set victory on court six. The remaining five matches went to a third set, with four first set wins by the Buckeyes. Ohio State went ahead 3-1, as Irina Cantos Siemers won on court one and Isabelle Boulais was victorious on court two. Northwestern won the final three matches, overcoming first-set losses on courts three, four and five. The team point came down to a third-set tiebreaker on court five.
Ohio State, now 3-2 this season, begins Big Ten play next weekend, as it hosts Purdue at 10 a.m. Friday and Indiana at noon Sunday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus. Live video and scoring will be available for the matches.

"Today wasn't our best day. It was a hard-fought match and we will be better in the long run because of it. We have kids that are playing well and competing hard. Our primary focus has to be on the doubles point and we will get back to work and get ready for the Big Ten season."
In Doubles
- On court three, the Buckeye tandem of Lucia Marzal and Irina Cantos Siemers fell to Maria Shusharina and Clarissa Hand, 6-2.
- Ohio State responded, as Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen defeated No. 57-ranked Julie Byrne and Hannah McColgan, 6-2. The Buckeyes broke on the no-ad point for a 4-2 lead and won the next two games.
- Northwestern clinched the doubles point on court two, with a 7-5 win from Christina Hand and Briana Crowley over Luna Dormet and Lisa Hofbauer, with the Wildcats breaking for 6-5 and serving it out.
In Singles
- Dormet tied the team score at one, as she beat McColgan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Dormet is 5-0 this season, with a 3-0 dual match record.
- On court one, Cantos Siemers dropped the first set against Shusharina, 6-3, but lost just five game the rest of the way (6-1, 6-4), breaking to win the third set. The sophomore is 6-1 overall this year and 3-1 in dual match play.
- Boulais rallied for a three-set win over Clarissa Hand on court two. After losing the first set 7-5, Boulais won 6-1 and 6-2 for the match. Boulais' victory gave the Buckeyes a 3-1 team lead.
- On court three, Allen faced No. 57 Byrne. The Buckeye won the first set, 6-1, but the Wildcat came back for 6-3 wins in the second and third sets to move the team score to 3-2.
- Hofbauer defeated Crowley, 6-4, in the opening set and the Wildcat won 6-3 in the second to force a third set on court four. In the third, Crowley broke for a 6-5 lead and served it out to tie the match.
- The team match came down to a third-set tiebreaker between Marzal and Pozo on court five. The Buckeye won the first set, 6-1, and the Wildcat took the second, 6-4. In the third, Marzal was up a break early but Pozo broke for 4-all. The players held to send the match to a tiebreaker, where Pozo prevailed, 7-4, on the strength of an early 5-0 lead.
