
Buckeyes Post Nine Team Wins in OSU Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's fencing team was 4-0 and the women's squad was 5-1 on the second day of the OSU Invitational in French Field House. Both squads defeated Air Force, NJIT and North Carolina, the men topped Penn State and the women also prevailed over Temple and Denison, falling to the Nittany Lions. Each Buckeye squad was 2-1 on Saturday to kick off the event.
Leaders
For the women, Julieta Toledo led the Buckeyes with a perfect 15-0 record on the day in sabre, with Camilla Rivano 14-1 in foil and Montserrat Viveros 14-4 in epee. Evie Bustamante had a 12-3 sabre mark and Grace Seal was 10-7 in foil, with Alexanne Verret 10-8 in epee.
For the men, Nolan Williams had a 10-2 ledger in sabre to lead the way, with Diego Cervantes 9-1 in foil and Edriss Ndiaye 9-2 in foil. Henry Lange posted a 9-3 ledger in epee. Jack Price had a 7-2 mark in sabre.
Buckeyes vs. Falcons
The men and the women posted 20-7 victories over Air Force in the first matchup of the day, with identical 7-2 wins in both sabre and foil and 6-3 epee victories.
For the women, Toledo was 3-0 in sabre, Rivano was 3-0 in foil and both Verret and Viveros were 3-0 in epee. In sabre, Steph Miller and Bustamante had two wins each and Emma Montgomery notched two foil wins.
On the men's side, Williams was a squad-best 3-0 in sabre, with Price 2-1. Ndiaye, Cervantes and Nathan Wriedt all had two wins in foil and Bence Bende, Ethan Edwards and Lange each notched two wins in epee.
Buckeyes vs. Highlanders
Ohio State's men topped NJIT 18-9 and the women posted a close 14-13 victory. The men swept all three events, winning 7-2 in sabre, 6-3 in foil and 5-4 in epee. The women won 6-3 in both sabre and foil but dropped epee 7-2.
Toledo was 3-0 vs. NJIT in sabre, with freshman Zoë Shay-Tannas 2-1. In foil Rivano had a 3-0 mark and Seal was 2-1. Freshman Mika Guillen had her first collegiate fencing victory in foil vs. the Highlanders. In epee Verret and Viveros were both 3-0.
Williams (sabre), Ndiaye (foil) and Cervantes (foil) all had 3-0 marks vs. NJIT. Ben Levitt (sabre), Matthew Hayes (sabre), Edwards (epee) and Lange (epee) notched two victories each.
Buckeyes vs. Owls
The women's squad posted a 14-13 win over Temple behind a 7-2 sabre victory. The Owls took foil (5-4) and epee (6-3).
In sabre Toledo was 3-0, with Miller and Bustamante 2-1. Rivano and Seal both notched two foil victories against Temple and Viveros was undefeated in three epee bouts.
Buckeyes vs. Tar Heels
The men downed North Carolina for the second time this weekend, winning 17-10, while the women rebounded from a loss to UNC Saturday to post an 18-9 win Sunday.
For the men, the sabre and epee squads won 6-3 and foil prevailed 5-4. Price, Williams and Levitt all were 2-1 in sabre vs. UNC and Edriss led the foil squad with two victories. Lange was 3-0 in epee against North Carolina, with Bende 2-0. Freshman Max Rodney posted his first collegiate win against UNC in epee.
Toledo continued her winning ways with a 3-0 record in sabre vs. UNC, with Bustamante also going 3-0. Rivano won all three of her foil bouts and Verret and Viveros were both a perfect 3-0 vs. UNC in epee.
Buckeyes vs. Nittany Lions
The men prevailed over Penn State, 16-11, while the women lost to the Nittany Lions by the same score. For the men, sabre and foil were both 6-3 winners, with epee falling 5-4. The women captured sabre (6-3) but lost foil (5-4) and epee (8-1).
Price was 3-0 against Penn State in sabre and Williams captured two wins, while in foil Cervantes had three victories and Edriss had two. Lange and Kaiden Crotchett had two epee wins vs. the Nittany Lions.
In sabre Toledo was again 3-0, with Bustamante 2-1. Rivano posted a squad-best 3-0 mark in foil to lead the way.
Buckeyes vs. Big Red
Ohio State's women were 26-1 against Denison to close out the day, with 9-0 wins in sabre and foil and an 8-1 victory in epee.
Bustamante, Shay-Tannas and Nicole Fisher were all 3-0 in sabre, with Montgomery, Seal and Guillen 3-0 in foil. Verret and Viveros posted 3-0 marks in epee and freshman Eva Shaffer was 2-1, marking her first collegiate win.
