Buckeyes Lose in OT to No. 5 Wisconsin, 2-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey team fell in overtime to No. 5-ranked Wisconsin, 2-1, Friday in LaBahn Arena in Madison, Wis. The Buckeyes allowed a first period power play goal and then tied the game with a power play goal of their own in the second. Late in the scoreless third a Buckeye penalty put the Badgers on their sixth power play of the night and Wisconsin converted 42 seconds into overtime for the Big Ten Conference win.
The Buckeyes and Badgers will close the weekend and regular season series at 5 p.m. ET Saturday. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Wisconsin and streamed through BTN Plus, with coverage also on Ohio State Radio. The game is the Buckeyes' final conference game of the season; the team closes the regular season with a home series vs. Arizona State next Thursday and Friday.

Ohio State at Wisconsin
In the First … The Badgers converted their first power play chance of the game, with Dylan Holloway scoring at 4:45. Wisconsin had the edge in shots in the period, 17-8, helped by three power play chances.
In the Second … Wisconsin carried its one-goal lead until 17:27 when junior Gustaf Westlund scored his fifth goal of the season for the Buckeyes. Grant Gabriele and Quinn Preston assisted on the power play tally scored from the high slot. Ohio State had a major power play in the period but spent two minutes of the chance 4-on-4 because of a Buckeye penalty; Westlund's goal came on a power play chance that started with 24 seconds left in the major. Late in the period a Buckeye was assessed a major, with 3:17 carrying into the third. Ohio State had the shot advantage, 15-7, in the period.
In the Third … Buckeye goalie Tommy Nappier stopped all 13 Badger shots in the stanza, with Ohio State putting eight on net. The Buckeyes killed a penalty at 14:14 to keep the game tied. A slashing penalty at 19:23 put the Badgers on the power play for the sixth time, which carried into overtime.
In Overtime … Just 42 seconds into overtime Holloway gave the Badgers the win, scoring his second of the night with UW on a 4-on-3 power play. It was the only shot of OT.
Shots … The Badgers ended the game ahead in shots, 38-31, with 10 on the power play. Nappier made 36 saves in 60:42 for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State had 22 shot blocks in the game. Layton Ahac and Ryan O'Connell each had five blocks, while Evan McIntyre had three.
Special Teams … Wisconsin was 2-for-6 with the man advantage in the game and Ohio State was 1-for-3 on the power play.
