Buckeyes Fall at No. 5 Northwestern in Season Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In its first game of the season, the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team fell to No. 5 Northwestern, 23-7, in a Big Ten Conference matchup in Evanston, Ill.
Up next, the Buckeyes will host Michigan at 1 p.m. next Sunday to open their home slate.
Buckeyes vs. Wildcats
Northwestern led 15-0 at halftime, as it outshot the Buckeyes, 24-7, in the first half and won 13-of-15 draw controls. The Wildcats scored the first three goals of the second half to extend the lead to 18-0 at 25:05.
Ohio State outscored Northwestern, 7-5, the rest of the way. Liza Hernandez notched three straight goals for the Buckeyes and had four total for the day, with three on free position shots. Jamie Level, Lindsay Epstein and Ashley Turner (assisted by Nicole Ferrara) also scored for Ohio State.
Hernandez had a team-best four draw controls and Epstein led the squad with three groundballs. Kelsey Reed had two caused turnovers in the game.
The Buckeyes had the groundball advantage, 12-10, while the Wildcats won 19-of-30 draw controls.
Noting the Buckeyes
- Hernandez led the Buckeyes with four goals and points. Her first goal of the day was the 100th of her career in the Scarlet and Gray.
- A transfer, Level’s goal came in her first game as a Buckeye. She started the contest.
- Buckeye freshmen Regan Alexander and Jamie Lasda saw their first collegiate minutes.
- Graduate transfers Kelsey Reed and MK Bonanni both started in their first game at Ohio State.
