No. 17 Ohio State Takes on No. 3 Wolverines This Weekend in Columbus

The Basics

The No. 17 Ohio State men’s hockey team hosts No. 3 Michigan in its final Big Ten Conference series of the 2021 calendar year.
The Buckeyes and Wolverines will meet at 7 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Saturday in Value City Arena in the Schottenstein Center.
The games will be televised by BTN and streamed through the Fox Sports app (for cable subscribers with BTN as part of their package). Ohio State Radio will carry the action as well.
Ohio State enters the series 9-5 overall and 5-3 in Big Ten play. Michigan is 13-5 on the year and has a 6-4 B1G record.

Buckeye This and That

Ohio State is coming off a split at No. 8 Notre Dame, winning the series opener 4-2 before a 5-1 loss. Michigan faced Minnesota last weekend in Ann Arbor, with a 5-1 loss and 6-2 win.
This is the first of two series between the Buckeyes and Wolverines. The teams will face off Feb. 18-19 in Ann Arbor in the Buckeyes’ final regular season series.
Last year, Michigan won the regular season series between the programs, 3-1, along with a win in the Big Ten quarterfinals. The squads split the series in Columbus, as Ohio State won 3-2 Feb. 19 before a 6-0 UM game two win.
This year, 22 Buckeyes – including every skater with more than three games played – have posted at least one point. Seventeen have at least one goal and 22 have one or more assists.
The Buckeyes have scored three or more goals in 10 of 14 games this year and are averaging 3.3 goals a night.
The defense has held opponents to three or less goals in 12 of 14 games and is allowing 2.2 goals per game overall.
Freshman Mason Lohrei leads the Buckeyes with 12 points this year, including a team-best 10 assists.
Ohio State has three of the Top 20 Senior CLASS Award candidates – Quinn Preston, Will Riedell and Gustaf Westlund. OSU is the only school with three.

The Buckeyes close the first part of the schedule with a nonconference series vs. Bowling Green. The teams will face off in Columbus at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 and at BG at 7:07 p.m. Dec. 17.
The team will be back in action vs. LIU. The teams will meet at 5 p.m. Dec. 31 and 3 p.m. Jan. 1 (note those game times have just been announced).
