Buckeye Men and Women Wrap Up Elite Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing programs posted a combined 4-4 record Sunday on the second day of the Elite Invitational in French Field House. Both teams topped Johns Hopkins, while the men were victorious against UPenn and the women topped UC San Diego. Notre Dame defeated the men’s and women’s squads and the men fell to UCSD, with the women losing to UPenn.
The Buckeye women are 11-2 this year, with the men now 10-2. Saturday, the women notched a 4-0 record and the men were 3-0 on day one of the Elite Invitational.
The women’s foil and epee squads were both 3-1 Sunday, with matching 22-14 records, while the women’s sabre squad was 2-2 and 18-18 overall. For the men, epee was 3-1 and sabre and foil were both 2-2. Men’s epee and sabre notched 20-16 marks and foil was 16-20.
Individually, Camilla Rivano, in women’s foil, was first for the Buckeyes with 10 victories (with just two losses). Alina Lee had a 9-3 mark in women’s foil, while Julieta Toledo notched an 8-2 record in women’s sabre. In women’s epee, Eva Mazur had an 8-4 day and Talia Weiss was 7-4.
For the men, Stephen Chou was first with an 8-1 mark in sabre. Diego Cervantes had six wins to lead the men’s foil squad and Paul Veltrup and Henry Lange were first on the men’s epee squad with six victories. In men’s sabre, Roscoe Swartz also posted six victories.

Select Buckeyes will compete in the Division 1 NAC in Columbus starting Thursday, with the January NAC in San Diego, Calif., beginning Jan. 7.
The Buckeyes will return to team competition at the St. John’s Duals Jan. 22 and the UPenn Duals Jan. 23.
