
Buckeyes Move Up Two Spots, Ranked Seventh

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its weekly rankings on Monday. The Buckeyes were ranked seventh in this week’s poll. View full rankings HERE.
Ohio State (18-4, 8-4 Big Ten) opened the weekend with a sweep (33-31, 25-18, 25-17) against Michigan in Ann Arbor on Friday evening. The Buckeyes earned a win in the longest set of the season to begin the match and finished the match hitting at least .300 for the 13th time this season. Senior defensive specialist Hannah Gruensfelder moved into third on the program’s all-time career digs list as she now has 1,395. OSU used a 7-0 run in the middle of the second set to pull away for a set-two victory and ended the match on an 11-3 run. The Buckeyes defense forced the Wolverines to hit just .081 during the second set while the Buckeyes offense hit .467 during the third set. View full Michigan recap HERE.
The Buckeyes earned a four-set victory (26-24, 15-25, 25-16, 25-22) against Michigan State inside Covelli on Sunday. Ohio State scored the final 10 points of the third set and the final five of the fourth set to clinch the win. Junior outside hitter Gabby Gonzales totaled a career-high 22 kills while junior setter Mac Podraza recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 42 assists and 15 digs. This is Ohio State’s 10th-consecutive week being ranked in the top 10, tying the program record. The only other time that the Buckeyes were in the top-10 for 10-straight weeks was in 2004.
