No. 9 Ohio State Sweeps Wolverines in Ann Arbor

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (17-4, 7-4 Big Ten) earned its 13th sweep of the season (33-31, 25-18, 25-17) at (RV) Michigan (12-8, 5-6 Big Ten) on Friday evening.
How it Happened
Ohio State scored the first two points and led the beginning of the set. Michigan took its first lead of the match at 7-6 but the Buckeyes would tie the set immediately. The Wolverines went up 9-7 on the back of a 5-1 run but three-straight OSU points gave Ohio State the 10-9 advantage on an ace from Mac Podraza. UM put together a second 5-1 run to take a 14-11 lead. Ohio State tied the set at 14 on a kill from Rylee Rader. The teams remained within one point until three-straight Buckeye points gave OSU a 20-18 lead and forced a UM timeout. Ohio State led 23-20 but Michigan scored three in a row to tie the set at 23. The Buckeyes took the marathon first set by a 33-31 margin on kills from Emily Londot and Gabby Gonzales.
The Buckeyes scored first again in the second set, but four unanswered points gave the Wolverines a 5-3 lead. The set was close through the mid-way point as the teams did not score more than two-consecutive points after an early 4-0 UM run as they were tied at 12. Ohio State was the team to break the back-and-forth scoring, doing so with seven-consecutive points to take a 22-16 lead. Back-to-back kills from Rader capped the 25-18 set win for the Buckeyes.
The Wolverines scored first in the third set and jumped out to an early 8-5 lead with four-straight points. Ohio State responded with a 3-0 run to tie the set at eight but UM had its own 3-0 run to regain a three-point advantage, 11-8. The Buckeyes tallied the next four points to take a 12-11 lead, their first since leading 5-4. After trailing 14-13, Ohio State scored the next four points to force a Michigan timeout. Podraza and Rader teamed up for a block out of the timeout. OSU extended its lead to 20-15 before another Wolverines timeout. The Buckeyes took five of the final seven points to earn the 25-17 set win on a kill from Jenaisya Moore.

Match Notes
- This is the 13th time this season that Ohio State has hit at least .300 as a team, finishing the match at .310.
- Hannah Gruensfelder moved into third in program history in career digs as she now has 1,395.
- Gabby Gonzales reached at least 10 digs for the sixth time this season and at least 10 kills for the 15th time this season as she notched her fifth double-double.
- Kylie Murr recorded double-figure digs for the 18th time this season, finishing the match with 14 digs.
- Emily Londot was the first on either side to reach 10 kills, doing so for the 15th time this season.
- Arica Davis led the Buckeyes with five blocks, recording at least five for the 10th time this season.
- Set one: The set featured 16 ties and eight lead changes.
- Set one: The Wolverines had four service errors during the extended portion of the set.
- Set one: This was the longest set of the season for either team.
- Set two: After being tied at nine, the teams were tied at every point until a 7-0 OSU run to give the Buckeyes a 22-16 lead.
- Set two: The Buckeye defense forced the Wolverines to hit just .081 during the set.
- Set three: Ohio State hit .467 with only two errors in the set.
- Set three: The Buckeyes wrapped up the match on an 11-3 run.
