
2021 Season Opener: Illinois 402.550, Ohio State 396.250

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics team opened its 2021 season with a competitive and hard-fought effort against the Illinois Fighting Illini Saturday at Huff Hall on the UI campus. Illinois came away with a 402.550-396.250 victory to move to 2-0 on the season while Ohio State opens at 0-1.
Ohio State won the early team battles on floor exercise (68.750-67.650) and pommel horse (66.650-66.350) to take a 135.41-134.000 lead after the first two rotations.
The Illini came back with wins on rings (67.950-66.000) and vault (71.000-70.350) to move in front, 272.950-271.750. Illinois extended its lead after its 64.950 on parallel bars while Ohio State scored 62.900 on the horizontal bar. The home team then clinched the win with a 64.650 score on the horizontal bar while Ohio State scored 61.600 on parallel bars.
Individually, Ohio State had event wins from Justin Ah Chow on floor exercise (14.400) and from Jesse Tyndall on the horizontal bar (13.650).
Additionally, Sean Neighbarger was runner-up on vault (14.400) and Trevor Cummings finished second on the pommel horse (13.800). Tyndall was also third on floor exercise (14.150), Ah Chow was third on vault (14.300) and Angel Leon was third on rings (13.700).
Ohio State travels to Ann Arbor next Sunday, Jan. 31, for a 1 p.m. dual against Michigan.
