INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Ohio State used a 14-0 fourth quarter run to break away from a pesky Minnesota squad and come away with a 77-56 victory in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday evening.
The Buckeyes advance to the quarterfinals to take on No. 3 seed Iowa on Friday night at 8:50 p.m. ET.
It was a collaborative effort for the Buckeyes as all seven players who played, scored at least five points. Aaliyah Patty and Jacy Sheldon each finished with 15 points to lead the way.
Sophomore Janai Crooms was 6-of-7 from the floor to finish with 14 points and also had four assists. Junior Braxtin Miller scored 13 points and swiped a career-high eight steals.
Freshman Madison Greene scored nine points to go along with three assists. Sophomore Dorka Juhasz finished with just six points but matched her career-high for the seventh time with 16 rebounds. Juhasz was a force inside all night, not only on the glass, but she also swatted a career-high four shots.
On the night, the Buckeyes had 14 steals and nine blocks. Both totals were one-off a season-high.
The Buckeyes started quick with a 10-1 run and led 23-6 late in the first. The lead was still 15 at 32-17 three minutes into the second quarter but Minnesota outscored the Buckeyes by nine the rest of the way and the OSU lead was 39-33 at the break. All seven Buckeyes that played in the first half had at least three points and Greene led the way with nine.
Neither team shot the ball well in the third quarter as both scored 15 points and the Buckeye lead remained at six heading to the fourth.
A Sheldon lay-in sparked the 14-0 run that finally put the game out of reach. The Buckeyes held Minnesota without a point for just over six and a half minutes. Sheldon had five points, Crooms had four points and Patty added a three-point play in the spurt.
The Buckeyes were without freshman forward Rebeka Mikulasikova as she suffered a high ankle sprain in practice this week and is unavailable this weekend.
