Buckeyes Drop Road Match at Georgia

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 ranked Ohio State men’s tennis team began a two-match road trip on Sunday with a 4-0 setback at No. 35 Georgia at the Don Magill Tennis Complex. This was the Buckeyes’ first outdoor match of the season.
Ohio State (13-2) lost the doubles point for just the second time this season when it dropped a 6-2 match on court one and a 6-3 match on court two. Redshirt-senior Kyle Seelig and freshman Cannon Kingsley were tied 4-4 on court three when the point was decided.
Needing a rally in singles, the Buckeyes pushed five of the six matches to a third set but it wasn’t enough. James Trotter fell 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to No. 95 Blake Croyder at No. 5 for the second Bulldog point. After dropping the opening set 6-0, Kingsley regrouped and won the second 6-3 but then dropped the third by the same score. John McNally battled No. 28 Philip Henning but lost 7-6 (6), 6-4 and the Georgia had a 4-0 win.
Redshirt-freshman Andrew Lutschaunig, who was playing in just his second dual singles match, won the second set 6-1 and was on serve at 4-5 in the third when the match was halted. Seelig was also on his way to another win on court three as he won the second 6-2 and was up 5-4 in the third.
The Buckeyes will head west to Palo Alto, Calif., take to take on No. 8 Stanford this Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
