COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team traveled to Milton, Ga. to take on No. 19 UMass. The Minutewomen edged the Buckeyes 21-16, moving their record to 4-3 on the season.
THE SHORT STORY
The Buckeyes got goals from eight different players against No. 19 UMass. Ali Beekhuizen and Sophie Baez registered hat tricks, while Chloe Johnson, Liza Hernandez and Janie Cowley each scored two goals for Ohio State. Nicole Ferrara and Cai Martin registered one goal during the game. Jill Rizzo made 20 saves in goal. Ohio State edged UMass in ground balls, 19-12.
HOW THE GOALS WERE SCORED
- Ashley Turner put a goal on the board first for the Buckeyes, leading UMass 1-0 early in the first period.
- UMass answered with their own goal three minutes later to tie the game and then went on a 3-0 run, never looking back.
- Ohio State saw first period goals from Janie Cowley, Ali Beekhuizen, Chloe Johnson, Sophie Baez and Liza Hernandez to end the first half 14-8.
- UMass scored three quick goals at the start of the second period but Ali Beekhuizen scored two goals within a minute of each other to make the score 17-10.
- Liza Hernandez, Cai Martin, Janie Cowley, Sophie Baez, Chloe Johnson and Nicole Ferrara rounded out the scoring efforts for the Buckeyes. UMass won the game 21-16.
