“This is a different Kent State team [than who we played last year],” Juhasz said. “Last year we played them in a really tough environment. I think mentally and our mindset was superior and we were so focused.”
All 11 Buckeyes who saw action against the Golden Flashes scored. Freshman Kateri Poole and junior forward Aaliyah Patty contributed 15 points apiece and sophomore guard Madison Greene had 12 points and six assists.
Team-wise, Ohio State shot 51.9 pct. from the floor, pulled down 44 rebounds and had a 23-to-3 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Golden Flashes were led in scoring by sophomore forward Nila Blackford with nine points.

Ohio State jumped out to a 26-0 lead in the first quarter and led, 31-4, after the first. Ohio State coach Kevin McGuff went to the bench early and often and used six players off the bench in the first quarter alone.
“We obviously started with really good defensive energy,” McGuff said. “We were playing really well on that end of the floor and Kent State wasn’t shooting well and so that led to a perfect storm.
“With Covid-19, teams are just at different levels right now. I don’t know if the score would be what it was today in a month from now.”
Juhasz led Ohio State to a 52-14 lead at the intermission with 12 points and eight rebounds. Sheldon had 11 points and Greene and Mikulasikova contributed eight apiece. Ohio State shot 60.6 percent for the half while Kent State was just 4-of-37 from the floor for just 10.8 pct.
The Buckeyes continue their season-opening run of home games with a 2 p.m. game Sunday against Northern Kentucky.
