Ohio State, coached by eighth-year head coach Kevin McGuff, opened up a 10-2 lead three minutes into the game and extended the lead to 36-17 at halftime as nine different Buckeyes scored, led by eight points from Sheldon and seven from Dorka Juhasz.
Ohio State hit 43 pct. of its first-half shots and limited the Dukes to just 14 pct. in the first half on 4-of-28 shooting. For the game, Ohio State connected on 50 pct. of its field goals and Duquesne only managed to hit only 22.6 pct. Ohio State also had a commanding edge in rebounding, 52-37.

The second half was all Ohio State, as well. By the end of the third quarter McGuff was substituting liberally as his team’s lead had grown to 31 points, at 59-28. For the game, Ohio State dominated in points in the paint, 54-22, and in fast-break points, 30-5.
“It’s good to play against somebody else,” McGuff said following the win. “It was good to play, especially after having our first game [against Akron on Wednesday] cancelled. I felt as if we played pretty hard for the most part. I saw lot of good things out there but also a lot of areas where we can improve. And I think we can make significant progress quickly.”
Juhasz, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder the past two seasons, pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with 10 points, the 23rd double-double of her career. Braxtin Miller contributed 16 points and a total of nine Buckeyes had at least four points.
This was the first women’s basketball game at the Covelli Center, the lovely new 3,700-seat home of Ohio State’s volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling and fencing teams. There were no fans in attendance as the Department of Athletics has determined no fans/families would be attending home events throughout the duration of the local stay-at-home order.
Ohio State will be back in Covelli on Wednesday, Dec. 2, with a noon game against Kent State University.
