No. 21 Ohio State Falls Short at Hot-Shooting Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 21 Ohio State men's basketball team suffered a 90-76 defeat at Penn State Saturday afternoon at the Bryce Jordan Center. With the loss, the Buckeyes drop to 12-6 on the year, 2-5 in the Big Ten, while the Nittany Lions improve to 13-5, also 3-4 in conference play.
The Buckeyes host Minnesota at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Value City Arena. Tickets are available for purchase online here.
Duane Washington Jr. led the Buckeyes with 20 points, tying his career high, while Kaleb Wesson went for 19 points, five rebounds and four assists and Andre Wesson went for 12 points and five boards. Lamar Stevens paced Penn State with 24 points while Myreon Jones added 20.
Mike Watkins and Stevens each scored five points early as Penn State raced out to a 14-4 advantage with 13:28 remaining in the opening half. The Nittany Lions pushed their lead to 14 at 21-7 on a Stevens 3-pointer with 9:09 remaining but the Buckeyes were able to battle back with a 14-7 spurt to trim the deficit to 28-21 on an Andre Wesson 3-pointer at the 3:31 mark. However, Penn State was able to respond with a late 3-pointer from Curtis Jones and pair of free throws from Myreon Jones to make it a 42-27 contest at the half.
Kaleb Wesson led the Buckeyes with 12 points at the half while Washington Jr. added seven. Stevens paced the Nittany Lions with 10 at the break while Myreon Jones chipped in with nine.
Penn State came out of the break shooting it well once again, pushing its lead to 56-36 on an Izaiah Brockington jumper with 15:10 remaining in the contest. A Kaleb Wesson 3-pointer cut the deficit to 77-65 with 2:39 left to play but the Buckeyes would get no closer than that in suffering the defeat.
For the game, the Buckeyes shot 42.6 percent (23-for-54) from the field but the Nittany Lions connected on 53.7 percent (29-for-54) of their shot attempts. Ohio State held a 34-26 advantage in bench points and a 28-24 lead in points in the paint but was unable to overcome Penn State's hot shooting.
