In the NHL
Ryan Dzingel, who was traded to Columbus at the trade deadline, and the Blue Jackets swept the Presidents’ Trophy winning Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Thursday, the Blue Jackets lost in overtime in game one of their series vs. the Bruins.
In the regular season, Dzingel had 26-30-56 totals in 78 games combined between Ottawa and Columbus. He has skated in 20 career playoff games and has two goals and an assist.
In the AHL
Eight Buckeyes are on American Hockey League Calder Cup playoff rosters.
Zac Dalpe and the Cleveland Monsters advanced to the second round with a 3-1 series win over Syracuse.
Nick Schilkey and the Charlotte Checkers lead Providence 2-1, with game four Friday night. The Iowa Wild, with Buckeye Matt Bartkowski, have a 2-1 lead over Milwaukee, with game four Friday. David Gust’s Bakersfield Condors hold a 2-1 advantage over the Colorado Eagles, which has two Buckeyes – Max McCormick and Sasha Larocque – on the roster. The teams meet in game four Saturday. Matthew Weis and the Chicago Wolves face Grand Rapids in a decisive game five Sunday. Mason Jobst is on the Bridgeport Sounds Roster, with the team winning in overtime Thursday to force a game five Saturday vs. Hershey.
In the ECHL
Chris Crane and the Toledo Walleye advanced to the second round of the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs with a 4-2 series win over the Fort Wayne Komets. Their Central Division Final series opened Thursday, with the Walleye winning, 1-0. The teams will meet in game two Saturday in Toledo.
Sam Jardine and the Newfoundland Growlers defeated Brampton 4-2, in the North Division semifinals. Game one of their North Division final series against the Manchester Monarchs is Friday.
Jardine scored the series winning goal for the Growlers just 19 seconds into overtime of game six.
