
Ohio State Opens Season with 4,635 Team Tally

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Ohio State University Rifle Team got their season underway in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Oct. 6, firing a team score of 4,635 against Akron (4,651) and Nebraska (4,651). The match was held at The X Count Range and was the first ever NCAA Rifle Match held at that facility.
In smallbore the team fired a score of 2,301 led by sophomore Ariel Hall who fired a 577. She was followed closely by senior Rhiann Travis (576), sophomore Annabelle Stanec (575), and senior Jacob Buchanan (573). Junior Elizabeth Dutton rounded out team scoring with a 565. Leading the way for Ohio State’s individual performers was sophomore Annie Tomb who fired a 570. Continuing individual scoring was junior Mica Harr (554), junior Megan Wilcoxson (553), junior Jared Minor (552), and junior Wynn Lekhavanija (543). Three freshman got their Ohio State careers underway on Saturday with Katie Ezell firing a 566, Joel Potts 565, and Natalie Katsuyama 549.
In air rifle the team fired a score of 2,334 led by Travis (589) and Buchanan (588). Rounding out team scoring were Stanec (579), Hall (578), and Tomb (569). Leading the way for the individuals were Minor (584), Ezell (582) and Lekhavanija (581). They were followed by Harr (579), Dutton (577), Katsuyama (573), Potts (573), and Wilcoxson (552).
“I want to first thank Greg and Diane Rice at The X Count for hosting a fantastic competition,” Ryan Tanoue, head coach, said. “They have a top notch facility and we look forward to having a chance to go back to Fort Wayne in the coming seasons. From a competitive standpoint it was great to see the team have a chance to compete on the road and give us a benchmark on which to build on moving forward.”
The Buckeyes travel to Fairbanks, Ala., to compete with the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Friday, October 11th and against defending National Champions TCU on Saturday, October 12th.
