COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State coaching staff has selected 20 players – 11 on defense, eight on offense and one on special teams – as its champions following Saturday’s 38-7 win over No. 13 Wisconsin. Additionally, RB J.K. Dobbins, DE Chase Young and SAF Jahsen Wint were named the offensive, defensive and specials teams players of the game, respectively.
Young has one of the best statistical games in program history last Saturday, tying a school record with four sacks while also totaling five tackles for loss, six total tackles and two forced fumbles. He extended his streak to 10 straight games with at least one sack and now has a nations-best 13.5 sacks on the year.
The Big Ten defensive player of the week and the Bronko Nagurski and Walter Camp national defensive player of the week, Young became just the second player in program history to register multiple seasons of double-figure sacks (Mike Vrabel, the current head coach of the Tennessee Titans, is the other to achieve that feat). Both of Young’s forced fumbles were recovered by Ohio State and led to touchdowns on the ensuring offensive possession.
Thanks to the play of Young and the Buckeyes’ 10 other champions on defense, Ohio State limited Wisconsin to just 191 yards of total offense and 83 yards rushing on 34 attempts (2.4 yards/rush).
Dobbins led an offensive effort that saw Ohio State produce 431 total yards on the nation’s No. 1-ranked defense entering the game. The junior from La Grange, Texas ran 20 times for 163 yards and two touchdowns while also catching three passes for 58 yards. Dobbins leads the Big Ten, and is No. 2 nationally, with 1,110 rushing yards. His 7.2 yards-per-carry average is fifth best nationally among players with at least 70 carries.
On special teams, Wint had two tackles – including one of the game’s opening kickoff. Ohio State’s punt coverage unit did not allow Wisconsin any return yardage.
